Death Of Bishop Sir Paul Reeves

It is with great sadness that I heard today in England – via the Internet – of the death of Bishop Paul Reeves, at the age of 78, in New Zealand.

As Archbishop of Aotearoa/New Zealand, Bishop Paul was my ordaining bishop at Christchurch, Whangarei in July 1981. As bishop and spiritual mentor to me and many of my colleagues, (“call me Paul”) Reeves was an inspiration to many – in his spiritual calling as both Bishop of Auckland and Archbishop of N.Z..

Though he was critcised by some in the Church when he accepted the call of Prime minister David Lange to become Governor- General of N.Z., thereby having to reliquish his Church office; I believe his influence in national and international affairs thereafter to have been a blessing to those for whom he became a reconciling influence in the political and social sphere.

To his widow, Beverley, and his children; I offer my own personal condolences. May +Paul Rest in Peace and Rise with Christ in Glory!
