AFFIRMING CATHOLICISM – New President

New President appointed

Bishop MichaelThe Board of Affirming Catholicism is very pleased to announce the appointment of a new President, The Rt Revd Michael Perham, Bishop of Gloucester, in succession to Bishop David Stancliffe.

Bishop Michael comments:
“I have accepted with delight the invitation to become President of Affirming Catholicism because I believe passionately in both the comprehensiveness of the Anglican Communion, with every strand of tradition vibrant and focused on the Gospel, and, among those strands, in the generous catholic tradition that has nurtured me and which I believe has much to offer at the present time.”

Following on the presidency of his illustrious predecessor, Bishop David Stancliffe, the appointment of Bishop Michael Perham (Gloucester), as President of ‘Affirming Catholicism’ gives new significance to the society’s movement towards an inclusive ethos in the Church of England.

The catholic wing of the Anglican Church has always needed the influence of a broader outlook towards the acceptance of women and gays as clergy and bishops who are careful of the maintenance of our apostolic heritage – as well as opening up the Church to ALL those believers whom God may call into mission.

May God richly bless Bishop Michael’s leadership of ‘Affirming Catholicism’ in the U.K. and elswhere.
